Green, purple, and yellow menstrual cups.

Menstrual cup sizes, explained

Lucy Meacher

Choosing your first menstrual cup (or switching to a new one) can feel a little overwhelming - especially when you’re faced with colours, sizes, and flow types.

The good news? Menstrual cup sizing doesn’t have to be complicated.

At Eleria, we’ve designed our range to make finding your cup feel simple, intuitive, and supportive - whatever your flow looks like. Here’s how to choose the right one for you.

Why does menstrual cup sizing matter?

Unlike pads or tampons, menstrual cups sit comfortably inside the vaginal canal and collect your flow rather than absorbing it. This means:

  • Capacity matters - how heavy your flow is changes how much capacity you need in a cup
  • Stem style matters - how high/low/average/tilted your cervix is changes which stem style will work best for you
  • Firmness matters - how easy/difficult you find insertion and removal changes how soft or hard you want your cup to be

The right size helps prevent leaks, improves comfort, and makes your whole period experience feel easier.

Take the Period Cup Quiz

To keep things simple, we've designed our period cup quiz to help guide you to which cup will be best for you. You can take the quiz here.

But if you're looking for a bit more explanation the we'll break it down for you:

You can always adjust

Your period isn’t the same every day - and your cup doesn’t have to be either. If you’re unsure, starting with your typical flow level is always a great first step.

Some people use:

  • a lighter cup for the beginning and end of their cycle
  • a higher-capacity cup for their heavier days, or for when they're able to change it less frequently

There’s no “one perfect cup forever” - just what works best for you, and you may have to try a couple before you find your soulmate!

A gentle reminder

Finding the right menstrual cup is a bit like finding your favourite jeans:

It might take one try.
It might take two.
And that’s completely okay!

Your comfort comes first.
