4 signs that you have a healthy period!

Lucy Meacher

Did you know that the 28th of May is Menstrual Hygiene Day? Each day we are making moves and striving towards a period-friendly world where menstruation is accepted as normal and is no longer stigmatised.

Check out the movement here to find out more information if there’s anything you can do to break down the barriers towards a #PeriodFriendlyWorld. Sometimes, even a small conversation about periods with your friends makes a whole world of difference! Let's empower each other and feel more confident normalising periods and menstruation!

Periods, as we know, are different for everyone, and it’s hard to describe what’s “normal”, but a lot of people often ask questions about what can be considered as a healthy period. Here are just 4 signs that you have a healthy period!

1. Period blood

Having bright red blood on the first day of your period indicates healthy blood flow (a deep, rich colour like cranberry juice!)

On lighter days, towards the end of your period, your blood may be pink or brown.

2. Eating

Feeling snacky around your period is a completely natural response to a rise in progesterone. Nourishing your body with balanced meals can help keep your blood sugar levels stable and your mood swings at bay for a happier period!

3. A healthy cycle

Healthy menstrual cycles typically occur every 21 to 35 days and causes bleeding for between 3-7 days. Try using your calendar or a journal to help track your period!

4. Symptoms

Other completely normal symptoms you typically get around your period include feeling bloated, breast tenderness, mood swings, spotty skin, low sex drive, and headaches.

Therefore, it’s super important to listen to your body at this time especially, as it’s going through so much! One of the most impactful contributions you can make around MH Day is to just talk about periods and menstruation, to dissolve any stigmas and help periods become more normalised!
